Previous Call Letters/Formats:
KLEC (In the late 60s, local builder Carroll Boyington operated this facility
as a beautiful music station.)
KJEM (Adult Standards Simulcast at 102.7 - Sometime in the 1960s-1975)
First licensed in 1948.
Bruce Beckman on KJEM (AM): "KJEM was purchased in the late fifties
by a couple of disk jockeys who were fired by the then new owners of KOMA, Storz
Broadcasting. Eddie Koontz was the number 1 rated morning drive jock but was
fired to make way for the Storz top forty format.
KJEM was a 250 watt daytimer that had difficulty covering the market. Those
were the days when XELO was on 800 with 150000 and would blow KJEM signal at
sunrise and sunset."
